Since the 1990s, it is impossible to imagine Berlin without techno. Here, the music developed into a mass phenomenon. How did it get to that? "The Birth of Techno" takes a look at the beginnings in Detroit in the 1980s, the African-American influences on techno, and the exchange between Detroit and Berlin. In this way, the exhibition conveys the complexity of techno and its references and casts new perspectives on mostly Eurocentric narratives.
